Project 52: Week 25

Summer arrived this past week…at least it did on the calendar! Perfect time for picnics and a little trip up to the ski resorts ;-) The views from Snowbird are spectacular this time of year! We road the tram up to the summit - enjoyed the landscape and the crisp, clear air.  There was still snow on the ground up top but not enough this year to keep the lifts open this late. An amazing place!

Over the next few weeks, I will be enjoying the Mediterranean sun.  I’ll miss a couple of Project 52 posts but be sure I’ll make it up to you when I get back!

à bientôt! (See you soon!)

Project 52: Week 23

To get away from the rising heat and the wind, I got outta town today – drove up into the mountains and was so happy that I did!  It was breathtaking going up the Alpine Loop – perfect afternoon :)

Project 52: Week 19 – Memories

One thing I absolutely love about being a photographer is the chance to preserve a memory.  I don’t have to remember every detail of my travels as I can return any time just by visiting my pictures. I also have the opportunity to capture a new memory that can enhance my family’s legacy.

My great-grandfather, George Smith, worked for Kennecott Copper many years ago. I have visited Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine a few times over the years, each time seeing something new. The landscape of the mine has changed dramatically since George’s time but one thing remains unchanged – the memories that I attach to the mine.  I never had the opportunity to meet him as he died one month before I was born, but I have seen his handicraft and have heard the stories.  Now, living in a community built on what was once Kennecott land and within site of the mine, I can see my great-grandfather’s place in my world every day.

The images I captured this week will make sure I don’t forget him any time soon :-)

A first for me!

Hello!  I’m branching out – not too far down the street but branching out nonetheless!  Next week, I’m participating as an artisan in the Oh Sweet Sadie! Art and Gift Show.  I’ve shopped the show before but this is my first time as a vendor. I will have cards and prints available for purchase.  I won’t be manning my booth the entire show but I hope my local friends will stop by anyway – so many fun finds at this show!

Thursday Feb 7th: Opening party 6pm – 10pm
Friday Feb 8th: 10 am – 9 pm

Project 52: Week 4

A storm rolled in yesterday afternoon – brrrrrr!  But it made for a good day to walk around the zoo today.  The crowds were gone and the snowfall was still in its pretty phase.  Most of the animals were sleeping but the polar bear paced and the wolves howled. Such a fun time!

Resident on Display

Hello friends!  I was selected as the Resident on Display for South Jordan :D I currently have a special RoD collection at the Lorem Ipsum Co-op Art Gallery (https://www.facebook.com/loremipsumgallery) in Daybreak. In February, I will move this collection over to the Gale Center (http://www.galecenter.org/default.asp) for a month on display.

The collection includes images from my travels over the past 18 months – from places as close as the Wasatch mountains and as far away as China.

I hope you’ll stop by to see my work – as well as the work of other local artists!

à bientôt! (See you soon!)

P.S. Be sure to check the Lorem Ipsum facebook page for any updates on hours!  The gallery is usually open each Friday night and Saturday, depending on the availability of the Co-op artists.
