Mount Rushmore

Project 52: Week 7

Happy Presidents Day!  It has been a whirlwind weekend – roadtrip to the Black Hills of South Dakota.  So much to see!  We got snowed on and slobbered on (ok, the car got slobbered on by the buffalo ;-) ). Even with the winter weather, it was a gorgeous weekend.  I took so many pictures I decided to give you a few of my faves from my phone this week since it may be a bit before I download my camera pix ;-) The presidents were awe-inspiring on Mount Rushmore, the iced lakes and resevoirs were amazing and the views were breathtaking. We even walked onto the ice at Sheridan Lake where I snapped the snowman.  It was a weekend of firsts!

Saying Good-bye to 2012!

It’s that time of year…when time speeds up and things don’t get done as planned! I had high hopes of updating my blog more often these past few months; as you can see, that hasn’t happened.  But I am thinking ahead and working on a few things for 2013 - a product review, a gallery showing and more photographs, of course! Be sure to check back often ;-)

Wishing you a Happy New Year - with a bit of my December at a beautiful spot where the cold Pacific meets the warm Sea of Cortez.  I was amazed and I hope you are too!

I love Fall!

I ♥ fall! Granted, there are beautiful things about all four seasons but Fall is my fave – football, sweater weather, chili in the crock-pot, fire in the fireplace, amazing colors on the trees, and dare I say again, football!!!

It has been a few years since I had the opportunity to capture the color shift.  Lucky for me, this year I was in a position to partake of the scenic routes nearby. The colors in the canyons are amazing this year – but, come to think of it, I don’t remember a year when they weren’t.

I was able to drive up Logan Canyon a few weeks ago.  Beautiful golds everywhere!Tony Grove Lake, Logan Canyon, Utah

Last weekend, we drove the Alpine Loop.  The sky was stormy but as the sun set it peeked out from beneath the clouds to light up the scenery.  Breathtaking!

Do you have a favorite spot to see the fall colors? Tell me about it – and maybe I’ll have a chance to visit there someday :-)

A drive through Zion

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to drive through Zion National Park in Southern Utah.  A few years ago (read about 18!) I was fortunate to live in St. George and visited Zion at least once a month, regardless of weather.  Wonderful memories! This time it was just a quick drive through while coming home from SoCal.  No way could I pass up stopping for this view! Could you???

It was a “China experience”

China was…interesting…a mix of east and west, colorful, hot and humid.  I switched batteries a few times, changed cards a few times and came home with many pictures and wonderful memories.

I’m still sorting through my [hundreds of] pictures – so many to choose from!  Here are a few to whet your appetite.  After the jet lag has finished kicking my arse, I’ll add images to my travel gallery page. Watch for an update in the next week or so :-)

On the road again

I should be packing as I leave for China in less than 24 hours.  Instead I’m loading pictures from my CF to my computer – much more fun!

We took a day-trip up Little Cottonwood Canyon and hiked at Albion Basin.  A summer thunderstorm brought quite a few showers but the wildflowers and the views were beautiful – and so were the moose :-) They weren’t afraid of the hikers as they were more interested in having lunch.

Stay tuned for images from China – I’ll be back online in August!

Washington ~ June 2012

My first long trip of the summer was a visit to Washington State. From scrub brush in the southeast to ever-green in the northwest – a beautiful place! It rained nearly the entire time but I enjoyed the trip just the same ;-) Here are two pretty stops on this journey…

Westport Light State Park is along an amazing stretch of beach where shells and sand dollars are everywhere – collections were enhanced from the last visit.

Snoqualmie Falls is a wonderful sight and I usually visit the park each year. This trip I enjoyed it from a different perspective. We took the train along the opposite side of the river and perched above the base of the falls for a few minutes. It was raining but that didn’t matter – it was amazing anyway!

Happy Mistakes

I’m sure you’ve all had a brain cramp, at least once…I have learned to admit my mistakes rather than ignore them as I might gain something in the process. Yes, I know, it took me while to figure that one out ;-)

Long story short - I forgot to reset the white balance after night-time shooting…OOPS!  But not to worry, I eventually figured it out! Only a little later than I should have.  With this lesson-learned, I actually gained something eerily beautiful. My images of Devil’s Kitchen came out, well, other-world-like. I’m not sure that I want to “correct” them in Photoshop. Definitely a happy mistake :-)
